he's the dad.

we've known each other for a long time now and of course i chose to marry him, so it comes as no surprise to me that d is the father he is.
since we've been here at the hospital he has soaked up every little bit of information.
he knows every person's name and the role they've played in our care.
after the c-section i was half conscious and sick on pain meds, so he discussed different issues with staff who came to the room: nicolai's spinal fluid draw, nicolai's status, pumping/pumping supplies, the lactation consultants, immunizations, etc.
he knows all the rundown on what nicolai has been through, the diagnoses that have been made (correctly or incorrectly since last week), the tubes and meds that have been administered/moved/removed/changed, which wires and screens measure what and where on our boy, and he's a pro at calming nicolai snuggled up on his chest.
he sleeps on the hard shelf of a bed without a peep, while i get the bed with all the moving parts.
i'm thoroughly impressed yet not one bit surprised.
nicolai is one lucky little fellow.

  1. Such a sweet post Kim. You and Nicolai are blessed!

  2. Sounds like a wonderful man and a very lucky baby. :)
